Ooh! Another makeover

I have found another piece to test your makeover abilities. Or, rather, to test your abilities to help me make this piece over.

I found it at the thrift store for 6 dollars. Those are sliding doors on the front. I am going to use it in my bedroom. I will probably use it to store some of my clothes. I might place my television on top of it.

My first thought is to try and remove those perpendicular boards that form the bottom supports. I was going to try and find some mid century type legs to replace them.

I was thinking of painting this a Chinese lacquer red. What do you think? Do you have a better idea? Help!
