Man, oh, Manny's

This is a little Chicago food post for you.  Today, I ventured down to Manny's for lunch.  Manny's is a delicatessen that has been a Chicago staple since 1942.  This is one of President Obama's favorite restaurants and it is easy to see why.  They still have the cafeteria style service where the men behind the counter wear those white paper hats and the servings are enormous.  Come to think of it, I think our president has a predilection for cafeteria style eateries because Valois' in Hyde Park is another of his favorite hometown haunts.

Before you get all judge-y, this bonanza was split between two people.  All of this food was the lunch special.  I cannot believe that one person could finish this special.  Believe it or not, there were people finishing off whole sandwiches when this was just half.  Needless to say, if you dine here, you will not go away hungry.

Half a turkey pastrami sandwich and potato pancake.

Matzoh ball soup.

Slice of sweet potato pie.  OK, that was not part of the special, but I cannot pass up sweet potato pie.  Everything was delicious and reminds me of the great deli food I grew up with.  Bubbe would be so proud.
